Gunung (mount) Agung is the highest volcano on this island, Bali. With an altitude of 3,031 meters above sea level. The mountain is located in the district of Rendang, Karangasem, Bali, Indonesia. Besakih, which is one of the most important temples in Bali, situated on the slopes of this mountain.
Mount Agung is classified as type stratovolcano, the mountain has a crater that is very large and very deep sometimes smoky and water vapor. When viewed from Besakih, the mountain is seen tapering perfect cone, but the actual mountain top is elongated and ends in a circular craters and wide.
From the summit of Mount Agung we can see the peak of Mount Rinjani on Lombok island in the east, although the mountain was covered in cloud, because in fact both these peaks are above the clouds.

Balinese Hindu community believe that Mount Agung is the dwelling place of his gods, and also the community trust that these mountains there is the palace of the gods. Therefore, the people of Bali make this place as a shrine consecrated.
Hiking trails
The climb to the summit can be started from three hiking paths, namely:
1. From the south are from the Selat districts, Karangasem regency. with basecamp at Pura Pasar
Agung, passing through the Selat market.
2. From the southeast is of Budakeling through Nangka.
3. From the southwest, which is a hiking trail that is commonly used by climbers are from Pura Besakih, Rendang sub district, Karangasem regency.
For every traveller/climber advised to book the services of a guide before making the climb.
It is advisable for the climbers to not bring food made from cow, because the area is very sacred mountain.
